Away
from its lush green coastal deltas much of Andhra Pradesh is rock, bare and
dry. The thin red soils developed on the ancient rocks of the peninsula
support an often meagre agricultural subsistence, but Andhra's capital,
Hyderabad, has become one of India's dynamic 'electronic cities'. Once the
centre of the largest Muslim ruled princely state in India, Hyderabad and
its nearby fort of Golconda are rich in history, but rural Andhra has its
own share of important sites, including the ancient Buddhist centres of
Nagarjunakonda and Amaravati, and one of India's most important modern
pilgrimage centres, Tirumalai.Andhra Pradesh is blesses with beautiful countryside watered by thirty-four rivers which include the Krishna and Godavari, and the State commands a coastline of nearly 1000 kms.
